Healy and his team will relaunch The Beehive in Thorner this summer

Hot on the heels of his first two Leeds openings in May and September 2018 - and just three years after his success on MasterChef: The Professionals, in which he was runner-up to Gary Maclean - local chef Matt Healy has announced his third venture: relaunching The Beehive in Thorner.

The 36-year-old chef and his Seventh Course team have taken over the village restaurant (situated between Roundhay and Bramham), employing Wakefield-based interior designers Nanu Soda to make his vision a reality.

The Beehive will relaunch this summer with a completely new concept, which Healy describes as “…shifting the concept towards a gastropub feel within a beautiful village pub, serving simple pub classics with a modern twist and hopefully creating a welcoming, friendly venue that will become a hub of the community.”

There will be high hopes for The Beehive following the success of Healy’s previous two ventures. Matt Healy x The Foundry in Holbeck won Best City Centre Restaurant at the Oliver Awards last year, as well as Britain’s Best Roast Dinner, and Grön Kafe has been delighting Oakwood locals for the last six months with a range of health food and vegan breakfast offerings.

Healy added: “We’ve been working on our business plan behind the scenes for several years now, and to see it come to fruition is fantastic. The people of Leeds have been so supportive, and it’s their feedback and encouragement that motivates us to keep pushing ourselves. We feel really passionately about contributing to the Leeds dining scene and continuing to push the boundaries to improve the offering for diners across the city.”
